Normal Thyroid Function Tests Following Discontinuation of Levothyroxine in Hypothyroid Iodine Deficient Individuals
SUMMARY In 28 school children with primary hypothyroidism due to iodine deficiency, 100 µg levothyroxine (L-T4} was administered for nine weeks and resulted in normalization of serum T4, T3, and TSH. Five months after withdrawal of L-T 4 , thyroid function was normal in the majority of subjects. Serum T4 was 8.6±2.3 µg/dl ; T3, 156±2.3 ng/dl; and TSH, 6.9± 12.7 µU/ml. Only one subjects showed ...
متن کاملAbnormal liver function tests following inadvertent inhalation of volatile hydrocarbons.
The use of aerosols containing volatile hydrocarbons in conditions of poor ventilation can result in accidental overexposure which can cause central nervous system effects and hepatic injury. We present a case in which inadvertent usage of an adhesive spray used to make greeting cards resulted in vague neurological symptoms and abnormal liver function tests both of which fully resolved on disco...
متن کاملAbnormal Liver Function Tests:
Serum levels of aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase that exceed 1000 IU/L indicate acute viral hepatitis (A, B and, rarely, C), acute drug toxicity (eg, acetaminophen overdose or isoniazid hepatotoxicity), or ischemic liver injury. In chronic hepatitis (ie, hepatitis B or C or autoimmune), values range from mildly elevated to usually less than 400 IU/L. Elevated levels of al...

Thyroid hormone replacement therapy in patients following thyroidectomy for thyroid cancer, although a potentially straightforward clinical problem, can present the clinician and patient with a variety of challenges. Most often the problems are related to the dose and preparation of thyroid hormone (TH) to use. Some patients feel less well following thyroidectomy and/or radioiodine ablation tha...

LFTs are not specific to specific systems or disease processes, yet abnormalities may indicate significant or serious disease. Interpreting abnormal LFTs and trying to diagnose any underlying liver disease is a common scenario in Primary Care. Single abnormalities in LFTs are difficult to localise and diagnose [2] .
